Have you found the cause of this issue yet? I've been shooting since the early 90's, and I'm well aware of lens flare. This is something new. This also concerns me. Especially since I plan to use my newly ordered 50-150 2.8 lens for golden hour shots facing the sun.

This 50-150mm f/2.8 lens is very prone to flare, like most f/2.8 zoom lenses (none are great in this regard). It suffers mostly from veiling glare, where the contrast is severely reduced in contra light (strong backlight). Even things like reflections on water will cause the contrast to drop, this is easily visible in the viewfinder since it is live view.

There isn't much to be done, just know that the flare will show up opposite the sun and plan accordingly. The Pentax 50-135mm f/2.8 I had was far worse for this style of flare. Veiling glare is easy to deal with by using a contrast boost in post processing.

For your golden hour shots, they might not be as impacted by this, in part I imagine this is from the closer focal distance. I haven't formally reviewed my 50-150mm f/2.8 yet, but informally on boards my largest complaint with it is the flare.

Thanks, Eric! Really good info. Gives me a bit more confidence in the lens when shooting against the sun!
