Re: I have a D800 but I never use it anymore

My conclusions could hardly be more different! Having bought and used the GX7 for a trekking trip, I came back very disappointed with the results- lots of rather soft shots, and lacking the punch and sharpness of pro gear and my D800.

I love the handling of the GX7: it manages to be fairly small yet really solid to hold in one hand, but in use it drives me mad. Maybe if you use it constantly for a few months one can get to grips with it, but I found that it would change focussing mode,  or a variety of other settings unexpectedly. I would then miss shots while to fathom what changed, and which menu or function key was required to set it back. It also consumed batteries at a rate of knots unless you are very careful and turn it off at every opportunity.

I've been reluctant to sell it, since it still seems such a great design, but having leant it to a friend recently, I heard her return with all the same complaints. It puts me off other mirror less systems, and I found it a relief to go back to the D800 where I  feel in control, and the results are spectacular. If only it weighed the same as the GX7!
