Re: My New K-S2 (Low Light > Repeat with ETTR)

Britney,

I have taken three photos at ISO 12800 with K-S2 (RAW :-).

1st - underexposed -1EV,

2nd -correctly exposed (0EV)

3rd -overexposed (+1EV)

The 100% crop (1000X1000) of the actual photos are below. I think at photo taken at ISO 12800 on K-S2 may printed when Exposed To The Right (ETTR) at least as 8x10, as not much noise and the colors are OK.

As I opened these photos in lift room I have found that all three photos were still underexposed at least by 1EV, even the histogram on the LCD preview was showing as above: (-1EV, 0EV, +1EV). That means I have not Exposed fully To The Right (ETTR).

Nevertheless, you can see that with each additional EV the noise level dropped. With JPEG it would not work, because as the camera LCD would show the clipped highlight the JPEG will have clipped hi lights, which can not be restored. It seems that K-SR2 in RAW can restore up to +2EV overexposed photos helping dramatically reduce the image noise.

During weekend I will repeat this experiment and will find the K-s2 capacity to overexpose without clipping the highlights.

Leo

PS Thank you again for your comment.

Under Exposed by -1EV

Normal Exposure 0EV

Over Exposed by +1EV
