I actually do not think Samsung is dumb enough to not realize what gem they have on their hands with the NX1.
Hmm...are you saying those professionals at Samsung may know just as much if not more than armchair CEOs in those forums? That's impossible!!!
On just a tad more serious note, I am going to stick with my previous prediction that Nikon will adopt NX as their mirrorless mount. While I have no clue if Samsung will announce any new camera/lens, I do predict they will keep their NX line alive in select markets like the US but generally take a back seat to allow Nikon to push the NX mount forward at least for a while. Nikon will be happy to oblige since they get a sweat deal on Samsung's sensors and image processors. Oh yes, I'm a glass-is-half-full guy!
I can also imagine that we will see Nikon mirrorless cameras with NX mount. One thing I find strange is that Samsung said that the development of the NX1 (and NX500) was very expensive. It seems that production of the NX1/NX500 has been stopped - this is a little bit strange. If development was very expensive but the product has already been released and seems to be selling well - why would you stop production. As long as the camera is technically up to date you could still sell it and try to get at least some money back. I think a technically so advanced camera such as the NX1 would have been very successfull if it would belong to another brand. So I guess a Nikon NX1/NX500 clone could be very successfull and Nikon has a gap regarding APS-C mirrorless cameras. In order to keep the size small they would need to introduce a new mount anyway. Taking over the NX mount has the advantage that there are already lenses available. If you compare the number of NX lenses with the number of native Canon EOS lenses you can see that it is not easy to come up with a large setup of mirrorless lenses even if you are a big player.
