I got curious and went through some old pictures I had taken with S90. A few flower/macro pictures I was able to find do not have colors like G9X pictures do; S90 colors look more washed out. But back then I was an "auto" shooter and never experimented with any other modes, so that might have something to do with it.

The pictures of the red flower I posted above was taken in a normal mode. Just for fun, I post-processed the same image (before crop) in-camera, in three modes; vivid, positive film, and vivid red. Positive film gives the same effect as if you applied all three vivid color modes; red, green, and blue. I personally feel the original colors look great, but I love the positive film version very much. I usually like the vivid mode for nature pictures, but surprisingly, not for this particular picture, the red looks a little washed out.

Hi Mikan,

canon compact cameras sometimes tend to over exposure and often you can get better colours if you try to set:

1. Exposure -2/3 ;    (not for nightshooting!)

2. AWB +A2 ;

3. My colours on Item C and here contrast +1;  (and if you like also more sharpness set +1).

With these settings you will get better overall saturation.

If you like other items than C  (e.g. Vivid,  P or  N.......) please note: if you set  e.g. Vivid

before shooting, point 3. above (settings contrast and sharpness) does not work!  But will stay if you set e.g. Vivid or other items in postprocessing. But note in-camera postprocessing will reduce the MB. You have to make the decision before shooting if you want the full MB.
