Well BOTH!

Go with both!

They're both simply tools (there's no "Good" vs "Bad," or "Dark Side" vs "Light Side" of the Force at work here). When you're shooting and the situation calls for it, just select the one that suits the situation best.

If you're on a budget get the Yongnuo flash, and an entry-level Prime in your choice of focal length. The new STMs have been offering excellent bang for the buck.

Or if your budget allows, go for one of the bigger Canon flashes like the 600EX-RT, and get a faster Prime or f/2.8 Zoom. Whichever floats your boat.

Personally I love fast primes in available light (gotta employ great technique tho). But I also use (bounced/diffused) off-camera flash during the occasions that call for it, such as Wedding Receptions, Birthdays, Events, etc. Hey, don't forget the color-balancing gel for your flash!

Good luck to you,

R2
