Had a quick session with the Konica Hexanon AR 135/2.5 and NX500. I brought my Hoodman Loupe with me but the light was overcast and ideal for LCD shooting so I saw little to gain from getting it out.

I shot wide open only. For static geese I felt I could nail the focus without need of magnification or focus peaking. However I was wrong! The DOF is very narrow and being almost there amounts to a rather poor image. With magnification I could shoot with much better accuracy, providing the subject did not move much.

For moving subjects it was a case of quickly magnifying to get there and quickly spray and pray before they moved out of the focus plane. When I say moving I mean paddling quite slowly on the lake. Forget flying subjects - they'd be gone before you could get them focussed correctly.
