I don't have the answer; I hope someone can answer.

It seems that 3D did not succeed in the modern world. It remain a very niche only suitable for a small passionate people.

I am addicted to 3D and most of my pictures are now in 3D, but is even hard to find people to view 3D on a 3D TV more than a few minutes.

Maybe the vast amount of people are simply not interested.

I am hopping that will change.

This might be from out of the blue but have you looked into setting up a gallery in Second Life(if it is still going)? I believe it is set up for 3D headsets. I thought about that one a while back when pondering the same complexities of 3D images. From my one man survey (talking to random people I have known or met ) there doesn't seem to be a huge take up of 3D TV sets and those that are bought pretty soon become 2D once the glasses are lost or broken, this happening not long after the novelty of 3D TV has worn off.

Well, I've just had a look and it seems that far from failing or fading away, the makers of Second Life is about to launch it's second generation. It takes all types I suppose. I'm not into that kind of thing but it does have interesting possibilities for alternative and more difficult digital media such as 3D imaging. Don't get lost down the rabbit hole though. Apparently some don't come back.

Ultimately, if there's no hassle of having to don viewing glasses/headsets, there's no reason why 3D wouldn't catch on like wildfire, given that humans want convenience and less work.

It did.  I'm sitting immersed in it right now.  It's called reality and it's free to everyone who comes through the turnstile.

Seriously though it was the same when 3D headsets were tried in the 90's.  I was itching for it to develop into something more viable but it didn't hit a take up curve so it was dropped.  Had R&D continued imagine what would be out there now.  There is a T.V. out there that can be used without glasses and with multiple simultaneous viewers but it is still a case of waiting for take up of that tech as well.  Until then you are kind of stuck with the idea of showing in exhibition spaces set up for the task to get people to even look with any depth (no pun intended).  Even then at this point they are still at the level of looking mostly at the technology rather than through it at what it is rendering.  Until an idea like this gets to a point of saturation that is the hold back of it.  It is received as more of a party trick than an art.  You have to get trend setters to change the way people view it in the end.  Sadly the sheep must be led.

The one serious conviction one should hold is that nothing should be taken too seriously.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without necessarily accepting it. -Aristotle
..oh, and I see by the lack of responses that I am right yet again.
