Shoot RAW. (but that goes for every situation)

Take a couple shots of a white balance target card.  As some mentioned, multicolored lights mess with white balance.

If I shoot people standing in front of the tree, I will use flash, typically bounced off ceiling.   I dial flash to about -1 1/3 stops FEC in order not to drown out the weaker lights.    Same goes for candles on b-day cakes.    A good idea to use gel on the flash that matches the light type - warm or cold.

In LightRoom, among other things, I will usually pull up the greens of the tree to make it a bit more vibrant.
