Which focal length (prime) is best suited for first time Sydney travel?
Dec 22, 2015
I'll be traveling to Sydney tomorrow with my wife, and need some advice on which lens I should mount on my GX7 during travel. We have a bag limit of 7KG per person, and my wife will do some shopping on Boxing day at Sydney, so a total of 14KG is a bit tight for me. I have the following lenses:
15mm f1.7
20mm f1.7
25mm f1.4
45mm f1.8
14-42mm ii f3.5-5.6
12-35mm f2.8
I seriously considered 12-35mm f2.8 since its focal lengths are the most versatile, but I've been using 25mm f1.4 for a long time and already got used to it, although sometimes I found it's not wide enough, but most times I'm satisfied; Also from past experience of using 12-35mm, I found it's heavier and uncomfortable with only wrist strap (I don't use neck strap). I also considered the 14-42mm ii, which, from what I read, has many positive reviews, and it's lighter than the constant f2.8 one, however I'm worried if the aperture's good enough even during the day?
I've never been to Sydney before, we'll be visiting the Opera House, botanic garden as well as city streets, so I'd like to get some advice on which prime lens is the most versatile one for me?
Things I've considered: I might need to take photo of the Opera House from some distance as it's on water? So it's better to have a longer focal length? Streets will be crowded during XMas so a wide angle lens is more useful?
Thanks!
