I want to stay with Panasonic because I find the menu system of the Olympus cameras way too complicated. I need the following:
GX7
GX7, GX8
GX7, GX8 (this requirement limits you to GX7, GX8)
Not needed with GX8 - it has a 1/16.000s electronic shutter and 1/8.000s mechanical shutter (GX7 also has a 1/8000s mechanical shutter)
Depends on the lenses. E shutter gives visibly less IQ and is precisely under those conditions
(too much light) not a real option if IQ is essential.
Panny and Oly would do well to build an ND filter in.
GX8
Do any of Panasonic's cameras have these features and if not, what camera does?
But you should definitely check some Olympus models.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 II is a very good proposition. I would not rule it out, if I was you. It probably has the best 16MP 4/3 sensor.
Not an option as the single reason he wants to leave EPM2 is the menusystem that is the way it is on every Oly cam. Otherwise I would however agree with you that Oly seems to have a lot that he wants in a small package. IQ is very good aswell etc.
One small thing to keep in mind... users can better learn and become familiar with the Olympus menu system over time but you can't change any of the camera specs once bought.
I think for the OP it is irrelevant, unless he gave EPM2 too little time. He has decided it is not for him however, so that is the starting point. It is like saying that someone could get used to the additional weight of DSLR why the very reason he wants to ditch is the damned weight etc.
Personally I find the EPL5 menusystem a hassle after 3 years, but I have to add that I used Panasonic also and never exclusively. I also agree that the options in the Oly's for stills are at least very nice and add more to the fun of photography to my mind than Panasonic does. EFCS is a very important one to mention. But also Live TIME is really really helpfull for someone who shoots lightning for instance.
