Gonna double down on Pentax I suppose

And by that, I mean just buying a cheap $90 50mm 1.8 and keeping the better of the two lenses. My biggest annoyance with Pentax is that its *hard* as hell for me to sell anything Pentax. On the other hand I've never gotten pricing so close to disposable before (technically I got my first 50mm DA 1.8 for $20).

Selling off my Canon 6D gear for a bit and will take another hiatus from Canon FF shooting (it was a very short remembrance).

Overall IMO I prefer the handling of lightweight APS-C DSLR's the best like the K-50, along with pentaprism and even pop up flash. The 6D pentaprism is slightly bigger and brighter, but for whatever reason I don't know if its crappy sealing or design, etc but I kept getting dust bunnies in the viewfinder, and finally a totally crap Canon service visit sealed the deal when a 'cleaning' service ended up with a mirror with smudged crap all over it.

My K-50 viewfinder which I've changed lenses with, (and to be honest the 35mm f2.4 and 50mm 1.8 don't look weather sealed at *all*), yet the OVF is pristine and dust bunny free to this day (sensor also just doesn't collect dust to any degree either which I like). I love my 35mm f2.4 a lot even though its 'equivalent' 50mm f3.6 or whatever doesn't look special on paper. It's funny how people complain about shallow DOF on smaller sensors but wide open on the 35mm f2.4 and its still hard to get everyone in a group shot in complete focus unless you line them up in an awkward firing squad formation. I am going to try to see if I can get a better 50mm 1.8 copy or not, if not I'll just return it and keep the one I have.

I'm still not gonna go crazy buying a ton of premium Pentax lenses, but I will take good deals as they come. For whatever reason I feel like Pentax is adjusting prices based on supply/demand and currency as does Canon at times with rebates/refurb deals. Nikon has always been far more rigid.

Currently I love the controls and ISO invariant mode shooting of Pentax the best as well.

Right now all my Canon gear garners a lot of interest on craigslist and my resale value is absolutely solid (basically free rental and no depreciation to be honest). With Pentax I don't get that resale safety umbrella at *all* at least not via craigslist. But my K-50 is totally a keeper at disposable pricing, and I still love the primes so far so I'm willing to actually make a buyer/ownership commitment with Pentax, while Canon has always been an easy one night stand.

Another thing I like even though the OVF is not that bright, I have been doing manual focus with the 50mm 1.8 I have and actually been nailing focus. For example this is shot pretty close to MFD, it lacks a lot of 'texture', but the OVF seemed good enough to nail manual focus for me. I don't think I can do that with the 6D unless I swapped the focus screen with an EG-S (which makes it darker for certain lenses anyhow).

I think the 'keeper' rate for manual focus is a pretty good test of how capable any one OVF is besides just describing them as bigger/brighter, etc.
