Wedding Flash Technique

I was recently asked by my brother-in-law to take some pictures at his wedding since I "have a nice camera". I'm not a pro and he knows this. I'm still pretty new to this, and am trying to figure out using my flash (something I have struggled with in the past).

I have a Nikon D7200 and SB-600 combo. Should I have a diffuser for my flash? A Softbox? Some other  "hack" like an index card clipped to the flash? I know just enough to be dangerous, and would like to do a good job for him.

Any tips on equipment, settings, or technique will be greatly appreciated.

PS- The wedding is in a week!
