I think it is more natural to put your dominant eye to the VF. Some folks think that putting the recessive eye (left for most people) will make one think more creatively. YMMV

Just for fun, I tried left eye. Sure, I even had to be creative to see anything at all Very uncomfortable.

Corollary: Do you keep the other eye open when you look through the VF?

I generally keeps both eyes open, but closes the left when doing more difficult stuff, like manual focusing.
