That doesn't change the fact that *with certain Panasonic lenses* you might still see more purple fringing on Oly bodies. Panasonic builds a thicker UV stack unto their sensors and designs their lenses with this in mind, the theory is that Oly tends to design lenses themselves to filter more UV... Obviously not all lenses will be equally effective at it, just like all kinds of CA aren't easily corrected for in software.

What you say makes sense.

This also means that another thing people like to retell is not true anymore: That there is no need for UV-filters in digital photography anymore.

Well, according to people better versed in the matter, you run of the mill UV filter will accomplish absolutely nothing in that particular scenario; because the filtration factor isn't anywhere near strong enough for it to compensate for the difference in UV filtering between Oly & Panasonic sensors.

Apparently there ARE stronger UV filters which would help in those cases, 2A & 2E types, not the easiest to source tho and all but impossible to find multi-coated. I actually special ordered a 46mm Formatt 2A to test on some of my Panasonic lenses along with the E-M5 II I recently acquired, haven't gotten around to it tho.

I'm particularly curious whether I'll see a difference on the 35-100, PL25 (one of the lens with which people reputedly see more PF), 12-32, and 42.5/1.7... I got the 46mm for the first two, might end up ordering a 37mm (available at B&H) for the latter two if I deem it beneficial. Don't use the 20mm much if at all during the day so if I test that it'll be over sheer curiosity.

This link has some useful info on the matter compiled by forum user Alan, along with links to various thread r discussing it... There might also be something in there about the CA corrections being implemented across the board now, I forget:

I don't think anything is definitive or set in stone tho, Oly may very well increase their UV filter stack at any time and Panasonic may very well have built in more UV filtering into it's latest lens designs... Which is why I wanted to test it for myself.

I just need to figure out a good target(s) where the CA would be most obvious and reproducible... Then shoot it with Pana lenses on the E-M5 II with and w/o the filter, plus maybe the same lens on my GM1.
