I'm sorry to break in, but EVERYONE has her standard about the superzoom limit: for instance, for our gracious host DPR, the limit is 8X (!) - see actual roundups. As canpen said, what common sens defines a superzoom today is at least 40X, better still 50X.

Thus, neither FZ1000, nor G3X are superzooms

Yes it is really historical definitions vs. something that is meaningful today. Since the term has been so spoiled by meaningless definitions, it would be better to call the actual superzooms something else, like megazooms or ultrazooms. Problem is that those have been spoiled the same way already.

I would say the limit that actually makes sense these days is going past the 1000mm mark, which is where the current models actually are, and which is beyond what commonly used DSLR lenses are capable of. That actually makes the category special, and the zoom super, not just normal.
