Re: Judder free 24p playback...

interesting read here... we had the same problem with GH4 footage

finaly it turned out that the 24p shutter effect is a bit harder to control in super sharp 4K on large screens - combined with a trashed 3:2 reverse pulldown on even top of the line 4K TV sets that screwed up everything... (computer monitors also don't regular support true 72/96/120Hz pannel timing)

After getting no judder free playout from the SDI framebuffer card of our NLE in 24p and 25p we started to analyse the issue...

Neither our Class-1 TVlogic nor an old Samsung Series5 37" LCD TV set showed any issues - 24p GH4 footage looked super smooth with this magical flimsy film shutter look that say to you - look thats a motion picture and not TV...

We use a Pansonic AXW 904 65" TV set as client review monitor and thought that such a device equipped with Panasonics "Studio Master Panel" developped with consulting from hollywood grading experts should be able to playback GH4 24p footage the right way... but it doesn't

There is no native 24p reverse pulldown to show true 24p refresh on the pannel.

The result is awful motion judder if you playback 24p/25p footage.

Magically as soon as the input switches to 50i/50p 30p/60i/60p all the judder is gone away...

Seems that we have to activate optical flow IFC (Intelligent Frame Creation) on the TV set to get rid of the terrible 24p judder. That results in soup opera efffect and motion artefacts from the optical flow frame processing...
