New manual lens - is the issue with the lens, or me?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and quite new to DSLR photography as well. I have a Pentax K50 which I have been using with a couple of different lenses, but I've also just picked up a Sigma 400mm F5.6 prime lens. However, I've only been able to take fuzzy photos with a lot of glare.

f5.6, ISO800, 1/6000 exposure.

f5.6, ISO1600, 1/25 exposure

f5.6, ISO100, 1/10 exposure

For a comparison, this is with a Sigma 100-300mm 4.5-6.7 at 300mm taken from the same place as the last photo.

I can improve the image marginally by using a smaller apature, but I still cannot get a decent picture. I've used a tripod with a timer to reduce any camera movement, and used the hood attached to the lens. But no other lens I have has so much glare. Is there anything else I can try?
