Hot rumor about this right now. If it proves true and Nikon comes out with new mirrorless cameras using Samsung tech, wonder how Canon will respond or be impacted with their M line.
I'll wait to see this .. I suspect it's an agreement for sensors and moving away from Sony for Nikon, however the rest?
seems odd.
It does seem odd, but it also makes some sense
For starters moving to a new processor and OS would be a prohibitive cost.
Except, that is one of the main areas where Canon and Nikon both have serious deficiencies. Samsung also understands smart phone communication better than anyone.
Integration of samsung stuff into the existing nikon ecosystem, i doubt would be a trivial expense.
Depends on how everything gets integrated. The biggest question is probably whether the NX lens protocol can be adapted to the F mount protocol and vice versa. However, my guess is NX is dead and Nikon will just be harvesting pieces from the carcass.
Also the theory was that this was leaked by someone high up in samsung - right, can you imagine the gag orders with this?
Also why could nikon buy out "everything" from samsung - for starters, they already know how to do fast AF on sensors (see nikon 1) they don't "need" samsung's technology which would be incompatible with their existing stuff.
The Nikon 1 stuff is fast, but Samsung had a few trick too. The sensor in the NX1 is capable of full sensor readout at 240fps. Their EVFs were class leading too. Leveraging technologies like that could finally lead to a mirrorless camera that was truly better than an entry level DSLR in all regards and possibly compete with the prosumer level too.
Not to mention, there's no money in mirrorless as we've already seen.
It isn't just mirrorless, it is all cameras in general.
