Hi,

actually i have a 18-55 STM Canon Lens that I have bought to upgrade the very old 18-55 lens that I have from 2005.

Now i want to ask, what do you think about the 24mm f2.8 lens? It's an upgrade to the 18-55 STM lens or it's better to remain on my 18-55 STM?

Thanks!

The advantage of the 24 / 2.8 STM over the 18-55 / 3.5-5.6 STM IS is that it's a stop faster, smaller, and lighter (the resolution and vignetting differences between them are trivial)

Vignetting is indeed the same when both lense are wide open...however the prime is wide open at F2.8 and the zoom at F4 if you look at the prime at F4 which to match the zoom at 24mm the prime is 1 stop better

. The advantage of the zoom over the prime (aside from the obvious fact that it goes from 18-55mm rather than being locked in at 24mm) is that it has IS.

So, if neither size nor an extra stop are a priority, go with the zoom.

yes i think so too.

i went for the prime for size as it is on my SL1/100D 95% of the time left at F2.8 80% of the time

EDIT anther plus for the prime is the very close focusing ..its so close i am surprised canon did not put a "macro" moniker on it.....i have had canon and other lenses that

have macro on them that focus nowhere as near as close as this lens
