My impressions from a 1" sensor camera vs m43...
4

Hi,

Two days ago I received a Canon G7X as a gift and had the chance to shoot a couple of photos with it. Since I am also using a GX7 I thought it might be interesting for some of you the comparison between the 2 sensors:

Image quality is pretty good, better than what I expected. Noise appears sooner (ISO800) but by shooting RAW and pp you can have usable photos even at ISO higher than 3200 (!):

The shot was taken at ISO 5000 (!) and then pp in LR

Regarding DR I think is less than the m43 sensor but plenty for most of the casual users/hobbyists. I am still evaluating the DR capability...

Highlights and shadows processed in LR

Finally where one will find the biggest and most profound difference is in DOF, where m43 does have an obvious advantage:

taken with GX7+20mm/1.7

taken with the G7X. ISO and Aperture were different to make this photo similar. Might have to try same photo with same aperture to really compare the DOF.

My conclusion is that 1" sensor is a quite capable one and can certainly stand on par in most cases with the m43. That doesn't mean that M43 isn't a better one. Of course it is, but in my opinion the biggest difference is DOF and bokeh.
