OMG, Rita, I'm so glad you told me!! I had no idea! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I rechecked the manual, and it's not there. So I took some test pictures with L and sL, and sure enough, I see that sL has a higher value for "compressed bits per pixel", and the image size is larger. See the screenshot below. That got me wondered, what is "compressed bits per pixel"?? A little bit of Googling didn't provide me with a definite answer, but it sounds like "how many surrounding bits the compression algorithm looks at, in order to determine the color information of the pixel". So the higher the number, the better. Please somebody correct me if I am wrong.
