Using the FZ1000 as point and click camera on Safari
7

Firstly let me thank everyone for there help on here and I took the plunge and upgraded my TZ60 to a FZ1000 for my latest safari.  I was a little worried about the extra weight and size as well as the shorter zoom.

I took my TZ60 and FZ72 as backup but never once took them out of the bag.  The Izoom on the the FZ1000 gave me some extra reach if I really needed it.

As I was shooting from a monopod pod on the back of a OSV most of the time the extra size didn't really affect me and I was never disappointed with the zoom.  I only really use two settings, one is the IA and the other is P which I set to have a very small focus point in case I am shooting through bushes which worked very well.

I found the dial to turn on boost mode easy and more importantly quick to select.  I also shot quite a bit of 4K video and I must say the results are outstanding, I wasn't expecting much better than HD but am now buying a new TV for home so I can watch them here rather than at work.  On a PC you don;t see any difference but on a dedicated TV it is amazing.

I also extracted some pictures from the 4K video directly on the camera in the evenings and they also look pretty good.  This process was pretty easy and you could move a frame at a time, going forward it moved ok but if you went too far it was really slow going back a frame.  I would have liked the separate video button on top of the camera to be able to record 4K as I had to turn the dial from picture to video which was a full half turn and not quick to go between them.

I had trouble on the night drives taking pictures but that is down to me and the settings I think. I did notice at the end of the day when the light was fading and the sun was pretty much gone the camera compensated well and the pictures came out much brighter than the eye was actually seeing.

All my shooting was done in JPEG and I will put some examples below if I can.

Overall I am more than satisfied with the camera and won;t be looking for another one for sometime I think especially as I have so much to learn about different modes on it still.

Here are some of the pictures extracted from the 4K video I took.

Leica SL (Typ 601) Panasonic FZ1000 Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 (TZ60)
