I believe we misunderstood each other, talking about slightly different things. It seemed to me that you believed they chose weak motor even for intended lower quality-slower AF. No, the motot is strong enaugh. It's just made slow...

You can make a stepper motor move at any rate you want, very fast-lots of battery energy & heat & lower reliability (over driven is possible), very slow for energy conservation and low heat & durability, it is up to the micro-controller & f/w & designers decisions to drive the pulses for AF stepping at the decided rate-designed speed.

It could be a small & weak motor geared to have adequate 'amplified' torque via gearing at the expense of speed, but the motor & system is certainly not strong or powerful enuf or adequately fast enuf for ultra-fast AF or even 'equal' AF speed as the faster EF-M AF lens.

It is a small lens, a lovely pancake lens, nice IQ after distortions compensation is applied, but it has trade-offs for size and costs & performance - nothing more nor less.

I like the lens but it is a slow AF lens !!

PS: I have non native lens that AF faster !!
