Re: K-50 as an entry-level DSLR

I've got an E-M10 and K-50 so I can directly compare. The Pentax line and the M43s are both killer because I think both provide more bang for the buck than Canikon, both have a similarly priced lens range, and both have both in-body stabilization which means using legacy lenses is killer.

The K-S2 would be fine; I am one who actually thinks wifi and such are improvements, and the articulated rear screen can come in very handy. Image quality is a bit better, and focusing has improved a bit from what I've heard.

OTOH you can get great deals on the K-50; samys.com eg had it very cheap with a Promaster/Ricoh rebate of $100 (which works for some other mostly brick & mortar retailers).

And the kit lens is pretty good for a kit lens. But Pentax has some budget primes that are great values, performing better than one would expect. The 35mm and 50mm for example. And the pancake 40mm F2.8 can be had for about $100US right now; it's pretty awesome, and versatile.
