Won't happen.

I think it's much a do about nothing, Samsung has invested heavily in the NX-1 and pro line lens development. After the NX-1 came out they devoted a ton of resources to get the firmware update out asap so this is a long term strategy with some short term adjustments.

I saw this happening with Sony, when they were struggling to get sales of their D-SLRS going people were predicting they were going to close shop, instead they snatched up Minolta, I can see Samsung doing the same and buying out Pentax or dare I say buying out Nikon!

Now we get the period of the assumptions, the escapes, whatever ways to keep this all alive.
The best thing Samsung has on its hand, something currently unique, is its sensor. The best thing for Samsung that has a reasonable chance of succes is to sell them to others. I don't know about longterm contracts in this business, but that sensor in various sizes would be very nice for most.
The camerabusiness is littered with camerabrands, but only three companies make good sensors for the mainstream cams. Sony, Panasonic and Samsung. So it seems doable for Samsung and could be profitable. They are not a newby here, have lots of experience and to sell tech to a company is far less challenging (and uncertain) than to a crowd that holds some prejudiced views and that is strongly influenced by marketing.
