My experience is that all DSLRs are not easy but some mirrorless with adapter is better. I used to use Sony NEX 7 with Metabones adapter. The tilt screen and enlarged image in viewfinder and LED make manual focus more accurate. I now just bought an EOS M3 with tilt viewfinder. This is even better. I also recommend to have a look at Panasonic GX7 or GX8 with Metabones adapter. This can further enhance the effective focal length. To make you and insects further away so that they won't be disturbed too much.

Not a bad suggestion there. All depends on what and how the OP wants to shoot.

I actually just moved to the Canon G3X as my go-to macro rig this summer. Much more compact and lighter than the DSLRs (and their associated lenses) that I have been using for years. Still a very capable setup. IQ is excellent at low ISOs. To get into the macro range I mount the Raynox DCR-150 close up lens to it, and use the built-in (diffused) flash.

For the OP, here is a full size image taken with the above setup (at full zoom). RAW image converted in DPP, zero sharpening or noise reduction applied yet...

Click on "original size." One can see the obvious potential.

And if you want to get even closer, you can use the more powerful Raynox DCR-250 instead.

Other samples in my galleries (various cameras, bodies, lenses)...
