Re: Thank you, birders

Apparently, I have given offense when none was meant. However, I stand behind my basic points.

1) Birders have helped to push the boundaries of photography. The wildlife and birding market for fast, long lenses on fast cameras far outstrips the sports market for similar gear.

2) Many more people can do what was very, very difficult a short time ago. Good, sharp BIFs used to be rare. Today, a hundred people can show up at one popular spot and produce such shots all day long. That recently happened at a site near me,

Neither you skill nor your photos disprove my basic statements to me.

Ha, the thing is that a lot of people don't even need to worry about it Jim. I look at peoples galleries when things like this pop up and I looked at your's. There's not too many people that can justify those types of lenses. A heck of a lot want them, but don't actually need them.

How many they sell will be the interesting one to see. If there's a market big enough to warrant them, then it should be fine, if not that might be the end of it. Its a tough market to be in and especially for a small company against the larger companies that can keep the cost down.

Maybe its the other way around, kit lenses and wide angles sell a lot more, so maybe its those folks that make it possible to play around for the birders and action shooters. So maybe we should thank them.

The 300 F/4 or the 100-400 from Panasonic I doubt I would ever get, I would have trouble justifying it with what I already use, but for the bird and action shooters in here, its going to be amazing I reckon. I'm really looking forward to see what they get. That's the exciting part for me, to see shots from around the world with subjects we don't have here. I live for those shots when I see them.

All the best Jim, no offence taken and yes, it is a lot easier than it was for sure 25 - 40 years ago.

Danny.
