Apparently, I have given offense when none was meant. However, I stand behind my basic points.

1) Birders have helped to push the boundaries of photography. The wildlife and birding market for fast, long lenses on fast cameras far outstrips the sports market for similar gear.

2) Many more people can do what was very, very difficult a short time ago. Good, sharp BIFs used to be rare. Today, a hundred people can show up at one popular spot and produce such shots all day long. That recently happened at a site near me,
