There's no right or wrong here. All the Powershots are excellent cameras and Canon is really upping it's game with the 1" sensor cameras (G3X, G5X, G7X and G9X). Thta's good for Canon and great for the consumer.

The G5X is probably the most adherent to the classic G series lineage (apart from the original G1X, which is my favorite) but, it's selling for an eye popping $800! Yikes.

Is the G5X a good value at that price? I don't know, possibly not. The G7X can be had right now for about $458 and it has a longer lens. I guess it's all in what you're willing to pay for.

But, I think you would be doing yourself a disfavor if you didn't at least look at a Fujifilm X30 as a comparison. At about $420 brand new, it's a ridiculous bargain. I had one and wish I hadn't a sold it. One of the best cameras I've had the pleasure to own.

ohhhkay just when i thought i might be narrowing it down ... there is a G9x too? right

and you suggest the fujifim X30? ... i will check it out ... thank you too !

it really is not ONLY about what one is willing to pay for ... its about what comes with it ....

a longer lens i can live without

a macro i would go for at extra dollars

a wider lens i would choose over other options ....

the g series has been fabulous for me ... on many levels ... thanks for the feedback ... again, i appreciate it very much
