Curiosity got the better of me so I looked at Sheffield's position on our big blue marble. 53 degrees north is WAY up there and I can well guess that a 400/1.2 would be handy for soccer in late fall light that's probably about as much as one gets in their closet.

I know at practically tropical 38N I have my troubles on overcast days; even though the light quality improves the amount plunges and focus response and accuracy and shutter speeds drop while ISO races upward. The triple-whammy of dodgy focus, motion blur and noise impact on detail degrade even the best images.

Clean high-ISO performance will eventually come to our rescue but in the meantime we need lens speed.
