Stupid things people say about mirrorless and weather-sealing
7

Thought that this was amusing:
From an Outdoor Photographer article on "My move to mirrorless" this assertion is made:
"The X-T1 is relatively lightweight, and it's weather-sealed, as is the 18-135mm lens, which makes the combo a great adventure photography setup. With DSLRs, you have to spend almost twice the money and carry almost twice the weight in order to get weather sealing."

That's hilarious!

The 16MP XT-1 with 18-135mm is 31.1 oz.
B&H Price for the combo is currently $1599 (with a $300 "instant savings")
B&H owner reviews give it 4.4 out of 5 stars overall.

Let's stick with a 16MP Pentax to compare:
The 16MP K-50 with weather-sealed 18-135 is 37.2 oz. (a whopping 6 oz. more)
B&H Price for the combo is currently $629 (an actual savings of $970 over the mirrorless)
B&H owner reviews give it a 4.7 out of 5 stars overall.

I don't know about you, but for me that $970 could pay for a lot of adventure, or other lenses or something. In any event, the claim that you have to spend almost twice as much actually goes in the other direction. That's the opposite of information: It is misinformation.

(IMHO) People are free to buy whatever they want for however much they want. But they don't have to lie about the economics in comparison with other products to anyone but themselves.
