I just picked up one of these, its the original not the newer IS version. I wanted to get one to see if I liked/could use the 24mm focal length as a prime and it compliments my other two lenses well (50mm 1.4 + 85mm 1.8) I have a fisheye for water shots but it creates an odd looking shot in most instances.

I have to say that I was expecting ok to good IQ from this lens but I'm frankly astounded at how sharp this thing is - especially as its an "older" lens. The vignetting is quite severe even for F2.8 but easily fixed in lightroom.

Anyone else find this to be a super sharp lens? I have compared to some shots i took using the 24-70 mk2 and I can see hardly anything in it. I use a 6D BTW.

Very Happy with my purchase now - only problem is - I was planning to get the 24mm F1.4L ii if I liked this and I'm now scratching my head as to wether I'd gain much IQ (I appreciate the low light implications).

Which lens are you talking about? There are 3 24mm 2.8 ones. The pancake or the old non pancake or the new is one?

Hi, the original one from 1991 onwards, it doesn't have IS. the build quality on it is very good too - I forgot to mention that.
