I just picked up one of these, its the original not the newer IS version. I wanted to get one to see if I liked/could use the 24mm focal length as a prime and it compliments my other two lenses well (50mm 1.4 + 85mm 1.8) I have a fisheye for water shots but it creates an odd looking shot in most instances.

I have to say that I was expecting ok to good IQ from this lens but I'm frankly astounded at how sharp this thing is - especially as its an "older" lens. The vignetting is quite severe even for F2.8 but easily fixed in lightroom.

That is because of wide angle on FF, mostly. Microlens issue.

Anyone else find this to be a super sharp lens?

It always has been a hidden gem in the Canon line up.

I have compared to some shots i took using the 24-70 mk2 and I can see hardly anything in it. I use a 6D BTW.

Very Happy with my purchase now - only problem is - I was planning to get the 24mm F1.4L ii if I liked this and I'm now scratching my head as to wether I'd gain much IQ (I appreciate the low light implications).

To be fair, the vignetting doesn't bother me at all, I quite like it for portraits, can see it might be a bit annoying for landscapes but then you'd not likely be at 2.8.

It's odd, theres hardly any reviews online about it, best keep it a secret eh !
