Also a new owner of the 760D and trying to establish a wireless remote connection with my S4 phone. I tried the Canon EOS app but it referred me to the newer Canon Connect app. I can connect but the connection fails before I can start the app. What am I doing wrong? Does my home Wi-Fi overpower the Canon and replace it?

The secret seems to be to use Camera Access Point (CAP) mode on the camera. This is done in the WiFi menu on the camera. You can set up connections to up to 3 devices this way. When you first do it, the camera will display a "paasword" and wait for you to connect your device (the S4).

Go to the normal WiFi set up on the phone, you should see the camera listed. Use the password when you connect. Once the connection is established, the Canon Connect app should work.

It took me quite a few attempts to figure all this out but it is now quite routine. For future connections you still go to the WiFi set up the phone (assuming that you have switched some other network in the meantime) but you won't need to enter the paasword.

Canon Connect works but I am beginning to think that DSLR Controller is better. One nice feature (on DSLR Controller) is remote manual focussing. You leave the camera/lens on auto focus and use buttons on the phone screen for coarse, medium and fine focus. You can zoom 5x or 10x to anywhere on the screen while focussing. The app must somehow trigger the shutter release without triggering autofocus.

There is another app called Heilcon, but I haven't tried it yet.

An anoying "feature" is that WiFi disconnects every time the camera mode is changed and you  to reconnect. Cant n claims that this is because manual controls have priority over WiFi. I think it's just poor implementation.

Over all, it works quite well.
