Re: Adding a decent lens to the G7

I see the original post is two months old, but thought I would add this.

I had intended to buy the GX8 but ended up buying the G7 when I learned that with 4k video, the GX8 crops quite a bit more than the G7.  The GX8 review on youtube by The Camera Store showed how much it crops.

With the GX8, shooting with a lens at 24mm (FF equiv) you end up with something more than 30mm, although I don't know the exact number - someone in the forum a while back said 38mm.  The G7 does crop a little (you can see it zoom-in in the viewfinder or LCD when you start recording), but it is a fairly mild zoom.  If you often want to shoot as wide as possible, the G7 was a good choice.  I am very happy with mine.

By the way, you mentioned that you have the 14-140 f3.5-5.6.  When I use this lens with the G7 and shoot 4k video hand-held, with OIS on, there is a major jitter or vibration introduced into the recorded video even when shooting at full wide 14mm. That does not occur with my 12-35 f2.8, even at full zoom.  Have you seen this with your lens and G7?

It is most visible when shooting hand-held and trying to hold the camera steady with no intentional  camera movement such as panning.  There was a recent long thread about this and many owners of the lens have experienced this jitter.  Some owners have not.
