Clearly you can't have everything.  It's become clear to me now that the Oly tiny camera compromise is leaving out the viewfinder and the Panny one is a very simple shutter and no IBIS.  Both give you a tiny battery.
With the benefit of hindsight I might have been better off going for the Oly compromise with a VF2.  But I didn't, so let's see.

Thanks for the VF4/VF2 info. I never use the backscreen so the VF2 on the E-PL5 would have been fine.
Bit worried about the 1/500th max mechanical shutter speed on the GM5 (not interested in the electronic shutter), will see if I can cancel or whether I have to work around it.
That means all the lenses will neen an ND8 filter to be usable, which is a bit of a pain, but we'll see.

Louis, with respect, you seem to be a little over-demanding for a camera body that is made to very high standards and must be almost a give-away at current prices. I there is little trade off for using the electronic shutter and your proposed uses are not that demanding really. I suggest that you might be better staying with the Olympus bodies that you are both happy and familar with.

There is no way that a camera body can be made that small and lack of IBIS and the electronic first curtain shutter were compromses that make the GM5 so much superior to anything that Olympus can offer in a size category of its own (with the GM1). The Air is Olympus' best shot at this category. The GM series size-wise is not in the same catagory as any other Olympus camera. But I suppose that it can be rationalised that there are some Olympus cameras that are just "a little bit larger" (as is oft said).

You will probably not realise just how small the GM5 is until you hold it in your hand - and this is a fully functional M4/3 systems camera (with a few small compromises).
