To be honest I'm not sure the newer models have improved that much - even at 800 ISO on the 5D3 I didn't have to pull the shadows too much before I'd start to see pattern noise and/or banding - it was a bit of a revelation to find how much more tolerant the Oly files were.

The iso capabilities of a 6d are excellent, DR at base ISO is not a strength, however. But one to two stops doesn't impose extreme difficulty with newer Canons, at least not with a scene as the one in the above example. The Nikons with their Toshiba/Sony sensors have no problem at all delivering the performance required.
