Re: Canon 35mm f/2 IS vs Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art bokeh comparison

I had an experience similar to yours in a camera store. Some people buy the latest equipment of anything just to have the latest regardless of need. They buy according to want not need.

My comparison of hobbyist vs. professional was to try to set a practical benchmark for cost of equipment.  Some people are amateurs, but they want to act like pseudo professionals.  They think that buying the best equipment will help them achieve that.  It may satisfy their ego.

I am semi-professional(I sometimes sell prints).  I have sold prints in the past at galleries shot with old equipment.  I still use digital equipment that is 2-4 years old.

Getting back to the original topic: I have an old version Canon 35/2 which I dropped on some concrete steps while on vacation.  It bounced twice.  The camera shop I used to go to before I moved said don't bother getting it repaired, the cost is not worth it.  Buy a new one.

I use a canon T2i with the 40mm/2.8 as my "street shooting" combination.  It's almost as small as some micro 4/3.  I may buy the new 35/2 for the additional speed.  I will not buy the sigma 35/1.4.  I can't justify the price.

Have a nice day!
