I generally agree with your analysis.  My point was that the average photographer(non-professional) who buys lenses like the sigma and then uses them for non-professional purposes(hobbies) could save themselves a lot of mone

Some pros buy the best because they think the other pro has the best, so they feel the need to compete in quality.

In real life use(internet, monitor views, print sizes 16x20 or smaller) you won't notice any difference especially for f2.8-f11 at which most people will shoot.

Camera costs and lens costs have points at which diminishing returns set in.  After that, it is just technology for technologies sake.  Photo technique is 90% of the result.

No, I am not Ken Rockwell in disguise.  Although he makes valid points for the average photographer.
