I have been eyeing Panasonic Lumix GM1 and GM5 since they arrived but due to lack of interest from the local retailer, the local retailer put a super high price on GM1 and hasn't even listed the GM5.

So given that the M10 has practically speaking the same size as GM1/GM5 and will most likely be available locally, it of course raises my curiosity.

Just a Link with the GM-1 and the M-10 with a kit lens.

Please that the new Canon kit-lens is smaller then the ones available in this comparison. However it's still almost twice the length of the panasonic kit-lens. meaning the Panasonic is still significantly smaller and a third lighter(as a kit)

and it's a m43's with a smaller sensor,

Who cares it's 4 years newer and has the same performance in ISO and exceeds the Canon 18mp. in terms of Dynamic range. Now if Canon actually used a half decent one it would've been a valid point. Whether they'd use the dual pixel or the new 24mp i don't care.

and yet, it has better noise response, same or better color depth, etc, etc .. and what .. .5 EV dynamic range - are you really holding your hat on that?

and much smaller back lcd,

Both 3.0 inch same pixel count and both touch sensitive. The Canon can flip the GM-1 can't. But you could get the slightly taller GF-7 which does have a flipscreen

The Gm-5 has a slightly smaller screen of 2.8 inch in order to make room for the built-in EVF.

and a fixed 16:9 screen on a 4:3 sensor, making it even smaller than 2.8 inches displaying a full image.

and more expensive.

yes, 749 at launch. you're not one of those idiots that compare a fire sale price of an old model to a new MSRP price are you?

You mean significantly cheaper that is 3 times busted

So I don't think their customer base only contains asian women but also everyone looking for small extra body with high image quality.

If that was the case they shouldn't have used a 6 year old sensor. They have 2 recent Apsc sensors on the shelve. Why they picked this crappy one is beyond my understanding

crappy one? then what do you call every single m43's sensor, because they all really do perform worse or the same on a per pixel basis.

They have more dynamic range and similar noise levels despite being 50% smaller. Canon needs to bring something interesting for once.

why? on an entry level model?

do you have any valid reasons why canon needs to push out a better sensor or better tech on a model that is geared to completely entry level?

where's your marketting stats to back up the fact that canon or anyone really needs to worry about IQ that significantly on a basic entry model - or that the average entry level consumer needs anything other than "good enough"?

all m43's sensors are really in the realm of "good enough" - a compromise on sensor size and in camera optical corrections to handle the form factor.
