I figured with the 300f4 being quite late, I'd just say 'sod it' and buy the 40-150 combo. I had a think about it and decided the 40-150 might be quite versatile, as for some trips I could take it rather than the 75 f1.8 and 75-300 (approximately the same weight).

I'm hoping to get out on the kayak this summer too, so a weather sealed tele will be very useful.

Can't wait for it to get here.

A wonderful choice Martin.

I recall when I purchased my 40-150. It was January and I remember going online to shop for some warm socks, except when I woke up there was a receipt in my e-mail tray for the lens. I have no idea how it got there, but I immediately forgot about it. Then a week later a large box arrived - and it was so lovely to use that I promptly forgave my hand for slipping on the keyboard on the fateful day when I accidentally spent a huge sum of money.

Definitely versatile because it's beautiful for portraits and of course very good for nature photography with the TC. I'm sure you will love it and I'll look forward to seeing the results. I will say that it is an incredibly sharp lens - perhaps a little too sharp for my tastes, but very impressive. That said, I still kept my Pana 100-300 because the extra reach can be very handy at times.
