I'm thinking of upgrading and wanted to know in a nutshell what differences I would notice with the NX1 verses my NX20. I am not interested in the video aspects, or all the wi-fi stuff. Mainly I want to know will the sensor allow more light so I can use lower ISO, and will the image quality/sharpness be noticeable? Also, is the viewfinder any better? That is probably my least favorite part of the NX20. I like my NX20, but looking to get better pictures indoors with natural light.

Being as this is the exact upgrade I made I can say with some certainty you will like it.

The NX20 has several great elements and some short comings. As a NX20 user I'm sure you know this.

The NX1 sensor in low light is significant. I would push the NX20 at 4000 ISO in most situations, but the NX1 I'll push to 8000 to 10000 ISO and know the image will still generally be usable. The Extra pixels is also handy when shooting wildlife and the such allowing for a little more cropping ability. The other major improvement is focusing. The NX20 can be a little slow or funky when focusing. When you use it for a while you adapt and can get great images. However the NX1 is a fair bit better in that respect. The NX1 also doesn't lock up when shooting a burst nearly as badly as the NX20. It really is wonderful

The NX1 has a noticeablly better EVF I really like it. The Dial placement is also very good. The Battery Length is significantly better. I had three Batteries for my NX20 and I always had a spare with me if not 2. The NX1 Battery will last about the same length as a little more than 2 NX20 batteries. It can also be charged by USB while the camera is on. I have used my external USB battery pack (for my cell) to charge my NX1 when I went out in the winter and kept it on and shooting at high ISO for about 12 hours. Also the placement of the SD card slot on the side is very nice to have.

The One of the two biggest "draw backs" of the NX1 is the Size it is significantly bigger than the NX20. I don't mind the extra size but it is much larger, though the weight isn't bad.

crappy Phone picture.

The other draw back is the rear LCD Screen. The NX20 Tilty Flippy Screen became a regular use for me when doing Landscapes, low or odd angles, and even the dreaded selfie. The NX1 is purely a one axis tilt and isn't as versatile as that of the NX20.

As for your question about using a lower ISO.. no.. you can't use a lower ISO and get more light (the sensor size is the same, which is what determines how much light it gets).. but as I mention you can get a higher ISO and get less noise. Which achieves the same thing.

ISO 8000 indoor ambient light (60mm at f2.8 very light processing, no colour correction)

Thank you for all your insight. I obviously meant I was looking for better quality/less noise at HIGHER ISO, not lower! So you did answer my question.  Yes....the swiveling LCD screen on the NX20 is awesome, and I know I would miss it on the NX1. I do use it quite a bit in situations like you mentioned. I think I'll rest one before I decide.
