Re: E-M1 PDAF Question

I'm not an expert at action photography but I do use the camera to take dog pics. I have a myset set up. Here are the basic things I've set up for that myset:

CAF, sequential H at 10 frames/second (with CAF it will only shoot at 9 or fewer depending on the lens and conditions), face detect off, 9 box group focusing in the center, shutter priority, CAF lock normal, release priority for CAF on, image stabilization for sequential shooting off, release lag time short, and display and frame rate high. I find that it works pretty effectively. I've not experimented with the CAF lock but normal is the Olympus recommended setting with firmware version 3+. If there's a lot of stuff on which the camera might focus you might want to try a single focus box, but I find with dogs it usually works better setting group focusing. And of course it works better in good light and with backgrounds that provide contrast with the dog. You might google Darrel Young, Mastering the Olympus OMD E-M1. His book was written before V3 was fully ready and has some incorrect information. But there is a free pdf addendum on CAF for V3. The book was published by Rocky Nook.
