I find the 300mm pictures better then those with zoom 70-210. Sharper, crispier detail.
Did you allready try md or mc manual lenses on the A77ii?
I'm looking for a new body, since the nex-5 is in overexposure when I'm taking pictures. Just not ready to decide yet if full frame should be a better choise.
The lens wasn't the 70-210mm shown in the EXIF data , but a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX APO IF lens . That's Sigma for you , not paying their fees !
It was a bad day for telephoto shooting , at the end of the field the bike were coming from vison was very poor , a lot of haze / mist made worse by the exhaust fumes .
Also as this was my first time at an event like this I wasn't shure what to take .
I put the 70-200mm on and had the matched Sigma 1.4X teleconverter in my pocket and started there .
At 200mm the bikes were very small , with low contrast . I tried it with the 1.4X mounted , this didn't help with the image quality so went back to the car to get the 300mm .
This lens has a high quality UV filter on it which I think might have helped cut threw the haze .
Having less pieces of glass in the way will also have helped .
These old Minolta primes are very good anyway , the 200mm APO prime I have is also very nice .
I have been considering replacing the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 with a Minolta 80-200mm f/2.8 , can't decide what to do as I'm using the primes more and there suiting me .
.
I've not got around to using any of my manual focus lenses on the a77ii yet , though I have a glassless adapter that I keep meaning to try the Minolta 100-500mm APO on to take some shots of birds in the garden .
Having the adapter act as a mini extension tube will help with its minimum focus distance .
I also managed to find the Minolta SR to A-mount 2x teleconverter S intended for 300mm and less lenses I keep meaning to try out .
.
My main cameras an a900 , what full frame camera are you thinking about ?
It has a very nice image quality and feel to it .
