I don't understand what you're referring to as "roundish" in the video. All I see is a green rectangle when he presses the screen. Nothing round.

??

Don't spend too much energy on the "question" as the system's behavior is well-established.

The focus patterns for native m4/3 and four-thirds lenses differ in on one way: 81-point and 37-point full grids. The reduced grid for both is nine (3x3). The single-dot, regular and small, modes are also the same. I will allow that the nine-point and single-point patterns can travel to the viewfinder corners with m4/3 lenses, but not with four-thirds lenses. This could perhaps make a difference to somebody, perhaps when using tracking.

There is no user-selectable CFAF/PDAF switch. Four-thirds lenses auto-set to PDAF in all drive modes with the presumed exception of the small group of CDAF-enabled four-thirds lenses, which can use both. Native m4/3 lenses shift to hybrid PDAF-CDAF in CAF mode only but the displayed grid patterns remain the same. A simple shift between SAF and CAF will demonstrate this. Since I have two E-M1s I can watch the displays side-by-side, one camera with each lens type.

Cheers,

Rick
