NX1 Rules!
Yup. NX1 was actually the runner-up to the mighty A7Rm2 for the Product of the Year. That's very impressive.
DPReview: "For many of the same reasons that it won our Innovation award, the NX1 performed extremely well in the voting for product of the year. The NX1 isn't just innovative but it delivers on the promise of those innovations, resulting in a more well-rounded camera than just about anything else in its class."
Yes, a pretty impressive product.
It's only TRUE weak point: AF performance with not so good light, (please notice I'm saying something more than "in bad light conditions"), in backlit scenes, etc. ... just when focusing is somehow demanding... But I must say it has greatly improved with FW updates and I hope it will continue improving (even if marginally from now on).
It's other weak point for action users: small buffer.
And some other small quirks... but every single camera suffers its own share of them... For me the "un-proffesional" ones here are: the instability of the software (hangs are WAY too frequent) and the slight (very slight but definitely there) slowness of the user interface (my previous camera was a Canon 7D, and NX1 seems always a tenth of second slower in everything: starting up, switching from play mode to shoot mode after shutter button half press, switching between EVF and rear display when you bring it near or far from your eye...)
But as DPReview says a lot of things have been done right. I never stop praising it but AFAIK this is the ONLY camera in the market with THREE wheels/dials so you can directly control, let's say, Aperture + EV + ISO in A mode without needing additional button press... And I also love the AutoISO in M mode...
Other features (which I think would greatly improve NX1) and which I think they should be really easy to implement:
- Canonish Continuous AF <-> Single AF toggle through button press.
- Given its great dynamic range, an exposure-to-the-right metering option in addition to traditional spot, averaged and centered. (Only useful if you shoot RAW).
