I agree, 7d is good enough for A3+ if you don't crop.

The area is not the best for cycling since the most part of the path along the coast is either old paths of customs officers or coastal paths and cycling as well as horse riding are not allowed.

I have not seen many dedicated cycle tracks either.

The Island of Oléron is the one you need for cycling. It is flat and there are tracks along the coast, along many roads and the paths among the saltworks are not allowed to cars (but workers). That's good for me but trained cyclist could find the trip monotonous is the main goal is not seeing views or birds
