To repair or replace.

Hello everyone. I wanted to solicit some opinions about something. I have a Canon T1i and  I noticed some dark spots on the photos I took that had a lighter background (blue sky, light colored walls, etc). Thinking it was dirt I took it to a Canon service center for a sensor cleaning and found out from them that there were scratches on the CMOS. They gave me a repair estimate of $200. Judging by what I'm seeing around the web, it's probably worth more than the camera itself. So I'm wondering am I better off getting the CMOS replaced or just going out and looking for a replacement camera? If I do feel like I want to repair it am I better off doing it myself or taking it in? If I do it myself where do I go for parts are there aftermarket options or do I have to go through Canon? Any input and opinions are welcome, thanks in advance.
