Hi,

It's a very general question, any input would be appreciated:

I have a Canon G9 which is still working nicely, and used only on trips, about 3-4 times a year. Day to day it's my phone (currently Xperia z3).

I feel envy with new cams' sensor size, 24-28mm equiv. focal lenth and wider aperture, but can't justify investing in something new for only a few times a year. If I'd use more often, then my candidates would be Canong G7x (441$ here) or Lumix LX100 (+200$).

Keep in mind, i'm a casual user who likes an advanced experience, using manual modes often.

So...should I upgrade?

NO NO NO. If you are happy with your day-to-day shots cam than your fine G9 is already a major overkill.

Yes yes yes but hang on a bit and wait for the new G17, then you can review it and let me know how good it is.

But seriously you could upgrade very cheaply by buying a G12, full manual mechanical functionality and now very cheap being 3 models back. I purchased a new G12 last year to replace my G3 (that camera went my Ex wifes way on  divorce). The later G15 and G16 really didnt do it for me Canon lost a little of the ethos of the G range (but not too much) whereas the G12 had it all.

The G7X and the G3X have the larger sensor but once again not that esoteric design and function that the earlier G's possess, I am hopeful, wish full and hanging out for a G17 that is the direct descendant of the G12.
